Principal Areas of PracticeKatherine joined MDS Law in November 2005 as an Associate, returning to private practice after spending 3 years with one of the countries largest tax practices. Katherine became a partner in October 2006. Katherine’s principal area of practice is tax, however she has over 10 years experience in property, commercial and trust law.
Katherine provides tax advice on a range of tax issues but has a particular interest in structuring real and personal property investments and tax effective business restructuring.
Katherine has assisted a number of New Zealand businesses set up operations in Australia and has advised on investments structures for clients wishing to invest in property and/or commercial ventures in Fiji, the Cook Islands, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Katherine has also acted for a number of New Zealand expatriates and non-residents with respect to investing in property and commercial investments in New Zealand.
Katherine’s commercial and company law experience includes franchising, the sale and purchase of small and large businesses, shareholder buy outs, shareholder agreements and the formation and structuring of general and limited partnerships, joint ventures and companies.
As part of her general property practice Katherine has been involved in a number of major subdivisions, vineyard developments, resort developments and is experienced in commercial leasing and property syndication.
Katherine provides advice to clients across a broad range of industries including legal and accounting professionals, corporates, high net worth Individuals, educational institutions, finance companies, property dealer/developers, charitable institutions, importers & exporters and inbound and outbound investors.
