What do I do
I head the Commercial Team at MDS Law. The majority of my practice relates to corporate and commercial advice, commercial structuring and financing, intellectual property and compliance advice. I became a partner at the firm in 2006. I also worked overseas for a number of years at an international firm in Dublin, Ireland, before returning to New Zealand and settling in Christchurch.
How I like to meet with clients
I am very service-focused. I like to work openly with my clients and understand what they are looking to achieve and the issues they face in their business. The Commercial Team is very proactive and focused on identifying pragmatic solutions to our clients’ issues. We like to be involved as closely as we can with our clients to develop strategies that enable issues to be minimised before they arise. While we like to be proactive, we find the collaborative approach works best for our clients.
My approach to client service
Client service is paramount. The needs of each client can differ widely though. We focus on really getting to know our clients and what their needs are. We always try to be as accessible as possible after-hours. Our clients don’t tend to take advantage of this but it is important for them to know that whenever they are in need they can pick up the phone and speak to us about the situation they are in. The quality of the work we get to do is great. We have a wide spectrum of clients involved in a number of industries. Work is always challenging.
What I like doing out of office
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I like to do any activity that is adventurous and challenging. This has ranged from deep-diving in the Red Sea to mountaineering in the French Alps to cycling in a number of countries around the world.
